Rajinikanth has finally revealed a major casting secret from Padayappa!
The superstar confirmed that Aishwarya Rai was his first choice for the iconic Neelambari role, and he was even ready to wait 2–3 years for her. The team later approached other leading actresses before finalising Ramya Krishnan, who went on to deliver one of Tamil cinema’s most memorable performances.
Rajinikanth also shared that the Neelambari character was inspired by Nandini from Ponniyin Selvan — a role Aishwarya Rai eventually played decades later.
With Padayappa completing 25 years, Rajini has also officially confirmed the sequel!
