Opp Fumes Over Smriti Irani’s Appointment As Minority Affairs Minister, BJP Calls Out Secularism

The appointment of Smriti Irani as the Union Minority Affairs has attracted criticism from TMC and NCP. TMC MP Jawhar Sircar questioned, “BJP’s brand of secularism”, claiming that a “hardcore Hindu” has been given the charge of Muslims and Christians. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju hit back at Sircar, saying that there are various other communities, other than Muslims and Christians, which are designated minorities in India.
