I’m an Engineer, but Learning to Fly Changed What I Knew About Planes

I’m currently an engineering student who’s been obsessed with flight for as long as I can remember. From sketching aircraft in the margins of my notes to actually building flying car prototypes in my garage, I’ve always thought I had a pretty good grasp on how planes work — at least on paper. But then I started learning to fly, and everything changed.
Now, I’m also a student pilot. And let me tell you — no textbook, simulation, or engineering diagram could have prepared me for the reality of being in the air. Flight school has been one of the most humbling and eye-opening experiences of my life. It’s not just about cool views and fancy controls. It’s about discipline, responsibility, and learning to stay calm when things get real.
This video is about that transition — from being someone who builds and studies aircraft, to becoming someone who flies them. You’ll see the beauty and chaos of my first lessons, what I’ve learned so far, and why flying is nothing like what most people think it is. It’s raw, personal, and probably the most important step I’ve taken toward my long-term dream.
My ultimate goal? To build a real flying car — not a sci-fi fantasy, but something practical that anyone can use. I want to help create a future where flying is as easy and accessible as driving. And learning to fly myself is how it starts.
Please support me!! Learning to fly and learning to build planes are SOOOOOO expensive: buymeacoffee.com/alanz
