Mossad used US comedian Desi Banks to run recruitment ads against Iran

A recent investigation reveals that “Israel’s” Mossad used the brand of Atlanta-based comedian Desi Banks to run covert Persian-language ad campaigns. According to The Grayzone, these ads, run through Desi Banks Productions LLC between 2022 and 2023, sought to recruit Iranians by promising safety, money, and protection for families.

Google’s transparency records confirm that the ads reached audiences in at least 19 countries and even linked directly to Mossad’s official Persian-language recruitment portal. Some campaigns used emotional imagery, including infants, and slogans like “Israel can protect you” and “Your family will be safe.”

This case highlights a new frontier in digital warfare: the weaponization of pop culture, social media marketing, and influencer branding for espionage.
