Carl Mays dominated hitters in the 1920s, Dan Quisenberry did the same thing as an elite closer during the 1980s, and today it is Tyler Rogers who uses a relatively rare underhand delivery. Submarine pitchers release the ball at or below knee level – often just above the ground - with the torso bent and the arm swinging upward. In East Asia, there have been several successful submariners like Shunsuke Watanabe, Byung Byung Kim, and Kazuhisa Makita.
