Imagine mist-shrouded grasslands whispering secrets of ancient highlands, where every step unveils Sri Lanka's wild heart—welcome to an epic trek through Horton Plains National Park!
The main loop starts near the visitor center after park entry, with a choice to go left (toward Mini World's End first) or right (toward Baker's Falls). It takes 3-4 hours at a moderate pace, mostly flat paths with mild inclines, rocky sections, and stream crossings—easy for most hikers with good shoes. Total distance covers open grasslands, montane forests, and key stops before looping back.
Key Highlights:
World's End: A sheer 870-meter cliff drop with panoramic views of the southern plains; best before 10 AM to beat mist.
Mini World's End: Smaller cliff viewpoint, offering similar vistas without crowds.
Baker's Falls: Scenic 20-meter waterfall reached via a short detour; features a pool and lush surroundings.
Chimini Pond and Red Bridge: Serene spots for photos amid streams and wildflowers.
Important tips:
Start early from Nuwara Eliya around 5 am for clear skies and clear view at the World's end cliff. No mandatory guide needed, walk along with other tourists. Entry fees apply (higher for foreigners), but worth every penny! As you walk along, watch for sambar deer or leopards (very rarely encountered) while staying on trails.
