This video gives a simple explanation of the purpose of ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), why a patient may need ECMO, the differences between VV-ECMO and VA-ECMO, and the risks of being on ECMO. This is a very basic explanation of this type of life support - not a comprehensive overview. This video is for people who know nothing about ECMO and want a bird's eye view of what it is. Medical background not required.
