Happy Birthday to Chris Squire.

I can't think of another bassist who has done more for the instrument in terms of bringing it both to the front of the stage and to the front of the mix than Chris Squire has.  He was a legend and a pioneer and leaves behind a void that won't soon be filled.

I wanted to do something special for, what would have been, Chris Squire's 68th birthday. So, I started thinking about different ways I could approach learning “Heart of the Sunrise”. Since I started posting covers on YouTube, no song has been more requested or suggested (although “The Lemon Song” is a close second). My usual excuse for declining those suggestions was that certain parts were of the song were just too fast for me to play finger style.  And, for the most part, they are.

In order to stitch this grand prog-rock piece together I had to cut a few corners, i.e. notes, during the quick bits and I hope that you'll forgive me for that.  I also hope you'll be able to look past the couple of F-bombs dropped, the enormous clam at the end of the song, as well as the final nasty look I give the camera.  I never thought I'd be posting this version, but the mix wound up being better than the only other one I managed to get all the way through.

No Rickenbacker either.  Boy am I glad that you guys are in such a forgiving mood.  I have to say, I've really been enjoying playing this Guild B-301.
