Writers Are Being Accused of Using AI — No Matter What They Do

In this video essay, I talk about how AI accusations are affecting authors (especially indie authors) and how some authors are using AI, while others are fighting against it.
I discuss the romantasy author allegedly suing a reader over a defamatory book review, as well as how authors are changing the way they write books to avoid "looking like AI". I also explore why neurodivergent writers (particularly autistic authors) are more likely to face AI accusations, and ask whether it's ethical and acceptable to use AI as a creative writing tool.

Additionally, I share my personal experience of being told my work "sounds AI-generated", and question whether we're actually as good as we think we are at detecting AI writing.
