As part of this year's 5G.NRWeek Rocket Session, the Competence Center 5G.NRW Team of TU Dortmund University initiated the discussion of first 6G key trends with the goal of industry-oriented development and research, as well as a basis for future commercial utilization under the label 6G Made in NRW.
Under the theme "The Race For 6G Has Already Begun" internationally renowned experts, Prof. Ingrid Moermann (imec - Ghent University, Belgium), Prof. Mehdi Bennis (University of Oulu, Finland), Prof. Haris Gačanin (RWTH Aachen) and Prof. Thomas Kaiser (University of Duisburg-Essen), led by Prof. Christian Wietfeld (TU Dortmund & 5G.NRW), presented first 6G research concepts for the upcoming society.
The contributions showed that 6G requires sustainable design, open concepts and a holistic view from production and logistics all the way to humans with their needs for self-determination, privacy and security in times of climate change and other societal challenges.
Even though the introduction of 6G is not expected until 2030, the Rocket Session shows that this is the right time to deal intensively with the 6th generation of mobile communications in order to guarantee a sustainable 6G perspective.
