More than 300 years ago, residents of Takwa town, in Lamu county, abandoned the area, leaving behind traces of a rich Swahili cultural heritage. Now, local and international tourists can get a glimpse of what life was like in the old days, after the Takwa ruins were gazetted and preserved by the Kenya National Museums.
