Well preserved Arsenic labyrinth at 06.35 & Calciner ovens at 06.54, Ball Mill at 08.55 which was active in the 1970's for ground re-working of tips for copper and tin.
WARNING - DUE TO RE-WORKING GROUND IS VERY TOXIC HERE, ITS NOT ADVISED TO ENTER SOME SEGMENTS OF THIS MINE. A recent university study found that arsenic levels at Devon Great Consols were 400 times higher than permitted levels.
A rich vein of copper was found here in 1844 which led to these mines being the most productive copper mines in the World, 1,284 people were employed & a huge 90,000 tons was extracted in the first 6 years alone, which led to the construction of a mineral railway to move goods to Morwellham Quay.
Like many mines production switched to arsenic in 1867 for financial reasons.
