For Advent I'm going to be sharing with you some remarkable monuments and stories from our cemeteries!
First up, one of the most popular things to be photographed for social media" the beautiful Angel of Death Victorious in Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio. Erected in 1924 in the memory of canned-goods merchant Francis Haserot, this sculpture both fascinates and chills its admirers...are those...tears streaming down its cheeks?
The Angel was sculpted by American sculptor Herman Matzen, who sculpted a few other pieces in Cleveland, from the statue of Tom L. Johnson in the public square to the figures of Cain and Abel that adorn the Courthouse. But his Angel is probably his finest work! What do you think?
