Neurogenic bladder is a dysfunction of the urinary bladder due to a neurological disorder or injury affecting the nerves that control urination. It can result from conditions such as spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or diabetes. Patients may experience symptoms of overactive bladder (urgency, frequency, incontinence) or underactive bladder (retention, incomplete emptying). Diagnosis involves history, physical examination, urodynamic studies, and imaging. Management depends on the type and severity, ranging from behavioral strategies and medications to catheterization or surgical interventions. Timely treatment is essential to prevent complications like urinary tract infections, kidney damage, and reduced quality of life.
