Tigran Hamasyan performing Bird of a Thousand Voices at the Chan Center in UBC.
“A phenomenal piano player, irrepressible entertainer [and] a promising experimenter,” (The Guardian) Tigran Hamasyan is considered one of the most remarkable and distinctive jazz-meets-rock pianists/composers of his generation. A piano virtuoso with groove power, Hamasyan seamlessly fuses potent jazz improvisation and progressive rock with the rich folkloric music of his native Armenia.
For The Bird Of A Thousand Voices, Hamasyan brings his latest genre-smashing project. Taking inspiration from his own childhood, the visionary artist takes the Armenian folk tale of Hazaran Blbul—the mythical bird that travels around the world to spread harmony—and weaves a story set to his signature blend of ingenious improvisations, galvanizing rock, and haunting melodies.
This concert will feature Hamasyan on piano, synth and vocals, as well as keyboardist Yessaï Karapetian, bassist/vocalist Marc Karapetian and drummer Jerad Lippi.
