In 1980, Hackman and Oldham designed the “Job Characteristics Model”, a model which set out to explain principles for enhancing the experience of workers in an organizational environment.
This model proposed that there are five main job characteristics that factored into motivating individuals in an organizational work environment. These five categories were identified as: Skill Variety, Task Identity, Task Significance, Autonomy and Feedback.
