Secrets of Survivors Benefits: The Widows Cap

There is a Social Security Survivors benefit rule that's costing some survivors thousands of dollars in missed benefits. In this video we cover a rule that's not very well known, but affects many seniors.

This rule is called the RIB-LIM and is also know as the Widow's Cap. It limits the amount of benefits that some survivors can receive. The effect of this rule is that waiting for an increased benefit is often pointless as the survivors benefit will never increase beyond 82.5% of the deceased spouse's full retirement age benefit.
