Racist Moments: Shopping While Black Part 1

The grocery store shooting in Buffalo was a violent racist rampage, but Black people face harassment, wrongful accusations, and all forms of microaggressions at places of business every single day — even without weapons. White supremacy exists in different forms, but for Black people at the receiving end of this treatment, each interaction incites the haunting anxiety founded on a history of oppression, of hate, of not being believed. In this video, I recount a racist interaction I personally had at a grocery store — and how breathing saved my life.

This is part one of a three-part series, and in each video, I will take you through the techniques I used to keep myself both calm and safe throughout the ordeal. Make sure to stay tuned to hear the whole story.
