In this video, meet a passionate surgical trainee from Chandigarh as he shares his hands-on experience at Piles Hospital and Research Centre (PHRC), —a leading center for proctology and minimally invasive surgery in India.

As a final-year medical student pursuing surgery, he always believed that real learning goes far beyond textbooks. Coming from a strong academic background, he was determined to gain practical exposure in a high-volume hospital where he could learn not just how to diagnose but also treat complex anorectal conditions like piles, fissures, fistulas, and pilonidal sinus.

That search led him to PHRC, known for its advanced infrastructure, expert surgical team, and patient-centered approach. Traveling from Tamil Nadu to Visakhapatnam was a bold decision—but one that changed his career path forever.

At PHRC, he didn’t just observe surgeries—he actively participated.

What stood out most was the mentorship he received. The senior surgeons at PHRC ensured he understood not only the "how" but also the "why" behind every clinical decision. They encouraged questions, shared real-world tips, and instilled surgical discipline and confidence in every step.

Beyond technical skills, he learned to connect with patients—explaining procedures, easing their fears, and following up on post-operative care. These soft skills, he says, are just as important as surgical precision, especially in treating sensitive anorectal issues.

One of the most memorable moments was assisting during a complex fistula surgery. Though nervous at first, the supportive team made sure he felt guided and involved. “It was a moment of growth,” he says, “where theory turned into reality.”

His experience at PHRC wasn’t just about surgeries. He learned to use modern tools like electronic health records, understand the importance of ethical practice, and saw firsthand how well-coordinated teams—from doctors to nurses to admin staff—work together in a specialty hospital.

To future medical students, he offers this advice: “Step out of your comfort zone. Go where you can learn by doing. PHRC gave me that chance, and it changed everything.”

He now plans to continue specializing in colorectal and laparoscopic surgery and dreams of serving rural Tamil Nadu by offering advanced treatment and raising awareness about anorectal health.
