BMW R 1300 RT ASA | First Ride Impression | 2 Wheel Explorer

In this video I tested the new BMW R 1300 RT. Was always curious about the RT but didn’t have a test unit for the previous generation. A friend did offer me to test his bike but refused as it was not mine and afraid if anything were to happen during the test ride. One day got a text from the salesman, Azim regarding the BMW fiesta which was happening and asked if there was a test ride for the RT ASA.

Registered for the test ride and was shown to the bike and explained the features especially the ASA function. In Auto mode, one will have to put the bike in first gear manually before heading off. The rest of the gear change is done by the bike. The mode can be toggled while on the move and to put the bike in Neutral, press and hold the M/D button for 3 seconds.

There is a marshal today and another test rider for the GSA. The route is a short one where we head to roundabout and return to show room. The bike is good at slow speed going down the multi-story parking. Almost rear ended the Marshall at the boom gate going out as I could not feel the rear brake.

Very good weight when riding slow speeds and suitable for city riding. While stopping at a red light, it takes some time to get use to not having to pull the clutch when in first gear. It is like the Honda EX-5 underbone bike. The bike accelerates fast from a stop and now I know why a friend of mine always zooms off from a stop. I love the automatic windshield adjustment which is something you never know you need until you experience it. The highest position blocks all the wind from hitting you and it makes a nice comfortable bubble but can be dangerous in long trips as you feel too relaxed and become unaware of your surroundings and develop tunnel vision.

Just tip the bike into a corner and it will happily go around the corner with confidence. Had a chance to lane split with the bike and it does it well despite the size. High speed is where it shines with the torque but I do not like the gear changing in Auto mode. The gear changing is too frequent and not as smooth as the quick shifter.
