Tefnut is a goddess in ancient Egyptian mythology associated with moisture, humidity, fog, rain, dew, and the fertile elements of nature. Tefnut, representing water, and her twin brother Shu, representing air, are children of the creator god Ra. Tefnut and Shu are also parents to Nut (the sky goddess) and Geb (the earth god). Tefnut is often depicted as a lioness or a woman with a lioness head. As the goddess of moisture, Tefnut maintain fertility and growth on earth. If she leaves the land in anger, drought and suffering follow. Return of Tefnut to Egypt was celebrated with music, dancing, and offerings.
