This was the first piece that I recorded upon my return to the studio two months ago (as you may remember), a full ten months after recording the "Pain Trilogy". This piece brought me back to life, so to speak, creatively! In the past, I have dedicated pieces to other musicians that have been inspirational to me, especially Eno and Budd, however, I recently listened to Debussy's "Clare de Lune" and "Arabesque" which made me realize just how much my musical sensibility has been influenced by Claude. Please understand, I am not comparing myself to his genius, in my opinion he was one of the first "ambient" musicians. In the 70's and 80's BC (before children) my wife and I enjoyed the many artistic and cultural benefits that Manhattan has to offer. An especially memorable event was when Tomita gave a free concert on the waterfront at Battery Park near the Statue of Liberty, the violinist Mariko Senju and all the sound equipment were floating on a barge on the river, while Tomita performed in a glass pyramid, suspended by a chain from a helicopter hovering over the water. They performed Debussy's "Arabesque" and "Garden in the Rain", among many other well known classical pieces, it was a surreal experience! We can't regain our youth, but, the memories will do! Hope you enjoy this encore. Live large my friends!
ABOUT THE ART: They are all "details" from larger oil on canvas paintings, I wanted to use only scenes of twilight from my "blue" paintings.
