The Last Drop’s new tequila is as ridiculously expensive as it is ridiculously rare, limited to a release of just 435 bottles available at $2,300 each. Could it possibly be worth the price? Short answer: Depends on who you ask. Though it’s clear that a lot of time and effort went into this bottling, there’s a good reason why tequila is rarely, if ever, priced anywhere in the four digits.
Today, we’re going to taste a sample and compare it against three equally expensive offerings from the same brand — an Irish whiskey, a bourbon and a scotch. Which one will come out on top in our ranking?
This is a full review of a $2,300 tequila: the newest release from The Last Drop, a brand known for curating some of the most expensive spirits in the world. This is their first-ever tequila, distilled at Casa San Matías and aged using a blend of 7- and 10-year casks (ex-bourbon and port pipe).
In this video, I break down:
• How this tequila was made and why it’s so rare
• Full aroma and flavor tasting notes
• Whether any tequila can really justify a $2,300 price tag
• How it compares to three other Last Drop releases:
– a 40-year single malt Scotch
– a 32-year single malt Irish whiskey
– a 60.7% blended Kentucky straight whiskey
(all between $2,000 and $15,000+)
We’ll talk about why tequila almost never reaches these prices, what makes this collaboration with Casa San Matías unusual, and whether this might be one of the most expensive tequilas ever released based on liquid alone – not flashy bottles or gimmicks.
If you’re into aged tequila, bourbon, luxury spirits, or just want to know what a $2,300 pour actually tastes like, this will give you a detailed, no-hype look at the glass.
