Franak Viačorka, chief advisor to Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, says that when it comes to the military, Belarus has basically lost its independence and is now acting as a platform for Russia’s war. He says Lukashenko is fully dependent on Putin and follows orders from Moscow, including the hosting of missiles, military bases, and drone guidance systems. Viačorka warns that the Russian hypersonic missiles stationed in Belarus are intended to scare Europe, particularly Poland, the Baltic states, and Ukraine, even if their actual combat value remains unclear. Viačorka also claims that Russia is deliberately placing military equipment in Belarusian cities and endangering ordinary Belarusians because Ukraine cannot retaliate there. He argues that talking to Lukashenko is pointless since any deals would be ignored as long as Putin is in charge. In his view, the best response from the West is tougher sanctions, stronger NATO defenses, and providing Ukraine with everything it needs to win.
