This great song was written by Carl Perkins, and was originally released on January 1, 1956 as the B-side of 'Blue Suede Shoes'. I knew The Beatles recording before I heard Carl's, original (it's on their album 'Beatles For Sale'), so a bit of the 'Fab Four' creeps into my rendition here and there. 'Honey Don't' has been covered by more than 20 other artists, including The Beatles, Ronnie Hawkins and Johnny Rivers. That E to C chord change was unheard of in rockabilly music, and Carl's brother, Jay, who played rhythm guitar in the band didn't approve of it. He told Carl, "That's the craziest mess I ever heard, ...whatta you drinkin' tonight?" Carl said, "Just do it." (p.143, 'Go Cat Go', Perkins/McGee).
