Mayela Caro Talks About Dunia Elvir: The Power of Determination and Service

Dunia Elvir grew up in Honduras and moved to the United States as a teenager. She always had a passion for journalism. She became a respected figure in Los Angeles for her strong community reporting on Spanish-language television. An advocate for immigrant rights Dunia overcame many challenges, including mastering English and having to mask her native Honduran accent. She serves as an inspirational role model to generations of Angelenos.

Mayela Caro is a Curatorial Assistant at the National Museum of American History.

Dunia Elvir creció en Honduras y se mudó a los Estados Unidos cuando era adolescente. Siempre tuvo pasión por el periodismo. Se convirtió en una figura respetada en Los Ángeles por sus sólidos reportajes comunitarios en la televisión en español. Defensora de los derechos de los inmigrantes, Elvir superó muchos desafíos, entre ellos dominar el inglés y tener que ocultar su acento nativo hondureño.
