Soke Inoue Yoshimi, Rika Usami's legendary master, discusses common timing mistakes seen during kata competitions. The incorrect sequence of lower and upper body movements when performing techniques can result not only in lack of speed, but also in loss of balance. Soke Inoue presents some incorrect transitions between stances and demonstrates the importance of landing with the moving foot before executing an upper body technique. Examples include mawashi uke in kata Suparimpei, teisho uchi in Annan, and chudan uke in Chatanyara Kushanku.
