Day 17 of my 60-day challenge to learn the Godot game engine (mostly 2D).
This was a lighter day on core gameplay systems, but a BIG step forward on UI and game state flow. I added a pause menu, a main menu, and a reusable custom button scene with hover/press behavior — plus a couple silly Easter eggs because why not.
In this video, I cover:
• Adding a pause menu (Resume / End Game)
• Building a main menu (Start Game / Quit)
• Implementing game state flow between menus and gameplay
• Creating a reusable “Main Menu Button” scene
• Using signals (mouse entered/exited) to drive hover behavior
• Customizing button styles (idle / hover / pressed colors)
• “Play this scene” and faster iteration while testing UI
• Early planning for multiple levels (Level_001 naming + scene management)
Next up: tooltips for the shop, tower upgrades, and tying more UI into the economy and progression.
