Lee Konitz "was a pioneer of the cool school & but he resisted pigeonholing and focused on 'making a personal statement.'" ( New York Times, April 16, 2020).

"He performed successfully in a wide range of Jazz styles, including Bebop, Cool Jazz, and Avant-Garde Jazz. Konitz's association with the Cool Jazz movement of the 1940s and 1950s includes participation in Miles Davis's Birth of the Cool sessions and his work with pianist Lennie Tristano. He was one of relatively few alto saxophonists of this era to retain a distinctive style, when Charlie Parker exerted a massive influence." (Wikipedia)

Hal Galper shares his fond memories of Lee, as he and Lee Konitz recorded the album WINDOWS together, back in 1976 & shares unique stories and insights about Lee.

And, there is so much more, as archivist of the Konitz records, George Schuller, who played with Lee Konitz on and off since 1992 & on Lee 's last recording session. He says, "Lee had become the perfect Jazz Buddhist in a white leisure suit."
