Watch in High Definition! Here's part two of the ride on the Tioga Pass Private Rail car from Los Angeles to San Diego. This segment shows the trip from CP La Palma, just south of Fullerton, to Irvine Station. Points of interest along the trip are CP College, Anaheim Station, lots of crossings including Sand Canyon Avenue, and Irvine Station. During the ride from Anaheim to Santa Ana, I stayed inside the train and filmed what it's like the ride inside the Tioga Pass. I showed several rooms in the car that I didn't get a very good video of the previous night, including the kitchen, dining room, our bedroom, and several shots of the Observation Room. I also took a brief walk into the Overland trail, before the private party boarded in Santa Ana. The Overland Trail is also a very nice car and is excellent for use as a lounge or a dining car.
Along the tracks between Santa Ana and Irvine, Metrolink was testing crossing timing for a future quiet zone through the area (yuck). One of the conductors on our train boarded the Tioga Pass and rode for that stretch of track. We also passed a dedicated Metrolink train that was being used to test time between the crossings at given speeds. You can see workers at each crossing for much of this stretch of the ride.
We passed the following trains:
Train 1: Northbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Train 769. Cabcar 6952. F59PHI 462.
Train 2: Northbound Metrolink Test Train. Rotem cabcar 661. MP36PH-3C 901.
Train 3: Northbound Metrolink Orange County Line Train 655 runs just behind the test train. Rotem Cabcar 645. F59PH 854.
Stay tuned for the rest of the ride to San Diego.
