Here is a Pen Disco session used with my Reception Class!
The children get themselves ready by either choosing to sit at a table using a shared piece of large paper or their own A4 piece on the carpet. The children also choose a selection of pens or other writing resources and are free to change colour at any time.
We recap before each session about pencil grip, I have adopted the term ‘crocodile fingers’ which my class are now very familiar with and are all able to use well, some children just need a quick reminder. The children are now brilliant at ensuring lids are replaced before changing colour too!
We have been doing two Pen Disco sessions a week and the children really look forward to it, singing and dancing along.
The impact of this has improved pencil grip and control. I was also surprised that the children were able to continually make marks for the entire duration, including those children with poorer fine motor skills and including SEND.
