In 2005, a once-in-a-century flood pushed Switzerland to its limits: six lives were lost, and the damage amounted to around CHF 3 billion. In the canton of Obwalden alone, damages totalled CHF 345 million.
To be better prepared for future flooding, the canton of Obwalden is investing in flood protection, including the construction of a flood relief tunnel. Marti Tunnel was commissioned to bore this tunnel, leading to the formation of the ARGE HWS Sarneraa. As the video reveals, the project posed numerous challenges. A little spoiler: things got rather wet.
