Listen to Robert Ovetz, editor of 'Workers’ Inquiry and Global Class Struggle: Tactics, Strategies, Objectives' (Pluto, 2020), for a talk on workers' inquiry and class struggle. Robert and Gifford Hartman will demonstrate how to conduct an inquiry at work. They are joined by Jenny Chan who will discuss workers self-organized struggles in China.
Robert Ovetz, Ph.D. is a precarious university lecturer in Political Science. He is also the author of 'When Workers Shot Back: Class Conflict from 1877 to 1921' (Brill, 2018 and Haymarket, 2019), and Book Review Editor of the 'Journal of Labor and Society'.
Gifford Hartman is a member of the Global Supply Chain Study/Research Group and is an adult educator, labor trainer and working class historian; he’s helped organize wildcat strikes at his own workplace and training sessions to build working class solidarity worldwide.
Jenny Chan is a contributor to 'Workers’ Inquiry and Global Class Struggle' and an assistant professor of sociology at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is the coauthor, with Mark Selden and Pun Ngai, of 'Dying for an iPhone: Apple, Foxconn, and the Lives of China’s Workers' (Haymarket Books & Pluto Press, 2020). She also serves as a vice president of the International Sociological Association’s Research Committee on Labour Movements (2018-2022). Her research focuses on labor, class, and the Chinese state in an era of oligopolistic globalization.
