They dig up their deceased relatives, clean them, exchange clothes, and offer them things they loved in life.

But it's not worship, it's 'honor and respect for ancestors,' something common in 'animist and ancestral' cultures.

For them, the dead continue to live in the 'Puya' dimension.

Their traditional god is 'Puang Matua,' creator of everything, but distant.

It's the spirits of the ancestors who interact, blessing or protecting the living.

Even with Protestant Christianity there, many families maintain or combine these practices.

But Christ speaks about 'mixing human customs with the pure gospel':
