Alex DePue was one of the most musically inspiring forces in my life. Growing up as a classical violin student, the first time I heard Alex play he opened up my world to things I hadn’t considered possible on the violin. He was a revolutionary violinist, fiddler, and all-around musical force! I count myself incredibly lucky to have known him, and to have been encouraged by him in my own musical journey. He had impeccable command of his instrument, was overflowing with charisma, and if you were hanging out with him there’s no chance you weren’t having the time of your life! He passed away tragically in a car accident just 2 months ago and I had planned to travel to Mexico for his memorial this past weekend but a brush with Covid kept me grounded in Nashville. I’m sad to have missed celebrating his life with the many people with whom he crossed paths in his life, but I decided to record this video of one of his original songs “Noriega” which happens to be one of my favorite of his compositions. Miss you Alex! You’ll always be a source of inspiration!
