What should you do if your jaw joint - TMJ starts to click, pop, catch or even lock? If the click does not hurt, most likely your dentist would not be very concerned. After all, they have been taught that “painless clicks are normal and get better over time”.
Are clicking / popping joints that do not cause pain “normal”? Are cavities that do not hurt “normal”? Are infected gums that do not hurt “normal”? No ethical dentist would say that those are normal?
Almost every single TMD patient that we have treated over the last 25 years had a history of “painless clicks” that they ignored before it got to the point that they longer can ignore it. We have even treated patients that had multiple unsuccessful joint surgeries for that and still ended up needing our help. They always wish that they had heard of PNMD or tried non-surgical treatment prior to consenting to surgery. But they did not know that surgery is not the only option for their problems.
Most dentists are also taught that popping TM Joints CAN NOT be corrected unless through surgery. So they may try a night guard or splint. A night guard is useful if the only problem you have is grinding away your teeth. The night guard protects your teeth from wearing down.
If that does not help and the joint hurts or locks, you would be referred to an Oral Maxillo Facial surgeon. This is a dentist with surgery training whom you most often see for wisdom teeth removal or for jaw fractures.
Any surgery comes with its own risks and painful recovery. The consent form would include such things as bleeding, infection as well as all risks of general anesthesia including death. Most surgeons no longer do joint surgeries for popping / locking joints because of poor results. The popping often comes back soon after surgery. That is like fixing the door hinge when the reason the hinge is getting stuck is because the door and the frame are not aligned well but the door is being forced shut.
These 3 examples are only a small sample of hundreds of people that we have been able to help. They show that with PNMD and Raman CCMD protocol, even long standing joint popping can be corrected & stay corrected WITHOUT surgery.
Each of these patients went through detailed diagnostic tests including our unique "Raman CCMD Protocol" of Physiologic Neuro Muscular Dental (PNMD) procedure to determine the optimal jaw and neck alignment. They were then fitted with a neuromuscular fixed orthotic for 90 days as a reversible phase 1 treatment. This is both a therapeutic and diagnostic step before any long term phase 2 option was used.
