Take flight over Cockcrow Bridge in Ockham, Surrey — the UK’s first heathland green bridge and a groundbreaking ecological infrastructure project. 🌱
This drone footage captures the living heathland transplant thriving across the bridge, reconnecting habitats divided by the A3 and M25. Part of the M25 Junction 10 improvement scheme, Cockcrow Bridge is designed to restore rare lowland heathland, support biodiversity, and create a safe corridor for wildlife, pedestrians, cyclists, and horse riders.
Over 85% of Surrey’s ancient heathland has been lost in the past 200 years, but this project is reversing that decline. The transplanted vegetation is now establishing well, providing habitat for species such as nightjars, Dartford warblers, woodlarks, sand lizards, silver-studded butterflies, and heath tiger beetles.
