“It makes it all the more special to me to come in here and find this. And to think that the Grapevines held one final secret or discovery that I could make that was really special to me.” These were explorer Steve Hall’s words as he solo backpacked into a remote area of the Grapevine Mountains in Death Valley NP in order to carry out a hike he had been planning for the past five years. Over the course of 2 days while covering 16 miles and gaining 3,000 feet of cumulative elevation gain, Steve makes several amazing discoveries including (places he calls) Collage Canyon, Secret Spring Canyon, and the Lost Basin. This special episode of Death Valley Discoveries captures vintage Steve back once again doing exploration of his favorite park. The central narrows of Collage Canyon are located at 36.748512, -117.017435. Secret Spring is located at 36.755946, -117.031741.
