After two and a half years of dedicated research and innovation, the FOR²ENSiCS project has reached a significant milestone: the development of a 10 kV DC/DC transformer prototype. This prototype includes key technology building blocks.
Europe’s first 15 kV Silicon Carbide (SiC) IGBT device .
An advanced module architecture
A 10 kHz medium Frequency transformer
A series-connected SiC MOSFET Switch
This prototype serves as a versatile testbed for low and medium voltage inverters, as well as a medium-frequency transformer. It is a key component that enables significant decrease in weight, size and material usage compared to traditional 50 Hz transformers.
An advanced module architecture capable of withstanding high voltage while ensuring efficient thermal management of the SiC chips has been developed to support the integration of the 15 kV IGBT. The DC/DC Solid state transformer has been specifically designed to meet the evolving demands of MVDC networks, offering high modularity and versatility.
The last year of FOR²ENSiCS project will be consecrated to the thorough testing of the demonstrator as well as the reliability each component.
