Pura Vida! Will Galison

"Pura Vida" was written during my escape to Costa Rica during Covid time. Many thanks to Monkey Dragon Productions for making this incredible video, to Hector Martignon for the beautiful horn arrangements, to all the great musicians who performed from their home studios, to all of my dear friends in Costa Rica, especially my Tico friends who appeared in the video. And to the amazing people of Costa Rica, who can teach the rest of us how to really live the "Pura Vida".

I wake up to the sound of monkeys in the trees
Jungle melodies, whisper of the ocean breeze
A “Pipa Fria” and I’m happy just to be alive

I grab my board and go to find the perfect wave
Ain’t nobody’s slave, don’t even have to shave now
And you could say it’s just another day of nine-to-five

And in the evening when the sky is filled with fire
And Martalita starts to lead the vesper choir
You’ll find me hangin’ on the porch with my Querida
Welcome to paradise…Pura Vida!

A band of butterflies is floating in the air
Rising like a prayer, life without a care
They disappear into the splendor of a clear blue sky

Irridescent hummingbirds impossibly hover

They find the sweetness in the little things that life provides

And when the tempest throws its shadow ‘cross the Jungle
The bamboo rattles and the thunder starts to rumble
The rain is beating on the roof of my casita

I’ve seen the saucers as they flash across the sky
