This is with emulation, using DOSBox Pure 1.0 Preview 1.
With this release it's now possible to run Windows 98 games on mobile devices at playable frame rates, and with resolution upscaling, due to the new "Hardware OpenGL" feature which now makes use of the GPU. Don't expect it to run well on a potato phone though, the games shown here still require a high-end device for playable frame rates.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Controller: Flydigi Vader 4 Pro
DOSBox Pure setup:
256MB RAM
3dfx Voodoo with 8MB
Hardware OpenGL
640x480 and 512x384 native resolution
With 2x and 3x res scaling
Do this to get the upscaling to work and with the best possible performance:
1. Run games at the lowest possible native in-game resolution (only increase the res with upscaling).
2. To enable upscaling, go to the RetroArch Quick Menu ─ Core Options ─ Video ─ 3dfx Voodoo Performance, and set it to "Hardware OpenGL". Then scroll down and select "3dfx Voodoo OpenGL Scaling" to change the scaling. Then CLOSE and run the game again for these changes to take effect (don't select "Restart" it wont work).
