U.S. Air National Guard Lt. Col. Theresa Nguyen, an optometrist assigned to the 131st Medical Group, 131st Bomb Wing, Missouri National Guard, translates for her mother, Lien Tran, as she shares the story of how their family came to the United States after the Vietnam War. After multiple attempts to escape the communist-controlled country, the Tran family safely reached the U.S. in 1985, beginning their new life in California, a journey that ultimately led Nguyen to join the Missouri Air National Guard.
