In this video I talk about summer losses and why your honeybees die over the summer.
Within beekeeping we get summer losses and winter losses. Its important you understand the difference between the two and factor this in to your beekeeping operation.
The main reason your hives will die over the summer is usually associated with swarming, Once bees swarm the original colony needs to make a new queen and she needs good weather to mate.
its never a 100% success rate even when the weather is good. The queen has a short window of opportunity to mate if she's unable to mate in that time the beehive will die. If the queen gets eaten or killed on her mating flight then the colony will die.
This is normal in nature its called natural selection however you can reduce your summer losses by adding extra frame of eggs into the hive to give them a chance.
