Climbed Gold Butte for the fourth time with Mike and his new husky, Ranger. We chose this hike so Mike could get Ranger used to a trail and hiking with gradual slopes and easy terrain. The skies were clear, offering great views of the surrounding mountains, and a light dusting of snow from the night before added to the beauty of the hike.
Gold Butte itself is always a rewarding destination. The historic Gold Butte Lookout, perched on the summit in the Willamette National Forest, offers sweeping views of Mt Jefferson and a glimpse into the region’s fire-watching past. It’s one of those spots where the effort feels small compared to the payoff. If you have completed a similar Lookout or Peak that you think we should climb, let us know!
