UNCUT - How to glue a one piece rib - Come incollare una fascia in pezzo unico

The method used by ancient Cremonese luthiers involved the use of single ribs for both the upper and lower bouts, to ensure better reinforcement of the upper and lower blocks, which were subjected to stress by the neck attachment—which was simply placed on the ribs without cutting them, glued and nailed with four nails—and by the endpin where the tailpiece tailgut is attached. With a modern grafted neck joint, the upper ribs are cut anyway, making the use of a single rib superfluous, while the lower ribs would still benefit from the increased strength it offers. However, it's not always possible to find ribs long enough to make them in one piece, but when the ribs' length allows, I still prefer to use single ribs, even if it's not strictly necessary. For two-piece ribs, they have to be joined carefully so that the joint is not too noticeable.

Il metodo utilizzato dagli antichi liutai cremonesi prevedeva l'uso di fasce uniche sia per la parte superiore che per quella inferiore, per garantire un migliore rinforzo dei blocchi superiore ed inferiore, sollecitati dall'attaccatura del manico, che veniva solo appoggiato alla fascia senza tagliarla, e incollato e inchiodato con quattro chiodi, e dal bottone dove si attacca il cavetto della cordiera. Con l'incastro moderno la fascia superiore viene comunque tagliata, rendendo l'uso della fascia unica superfluo, mentre la fascia inferiore beneficierebbe comunque dell'aumentata resistenza che offre. Non è sempre possibile trovare delle fasce lunghe abbastanza per poterle fare in pezzo unico, ma quando la lunghezza delle fasce lo permette, preferisco comunque utilizzare fasce uniche, anche se non è strettamente necessario. Nel caso di fasce in due pezzi, sarà necessario giuntarle accuratamente in modo che la giunzione risulti il meno visibile possibile.
