A walk through the Benois Wing — one of the buildings of the State Russian Museum in St Petersburg, home to permanent exhibitions of art from the late 19th to the early 21st century, as well as galleries for temporary exhibitions.
At the moment (November 2025), it hosts the exhibition *“Our Avant-Garde".
The project is built on the principle of systematic presentation: the masterpieces are arranged according to artistic movements, schools, and visual and philosophical themes.
The visitor’s route moves from one “ism” to another (Impressionism — Primitivism — Cézannism — Cubism — Futurism — Abstraction — Constructivism), following, expanding, and refining the model developed in museum practice of the 1920s.
More than 300 works by outstanding artists of the avant-garde are on display, including Kazimir Malevich, Mikhail Larionov, Marc Chagall, Wassily Kandinsky, Pavel Filonov, and others.
A special value of this exhibition lies in the fact that it features not only works from the Russian Museum’s own collection, but also original paintings generously loaned by numerous museums across Russia.
