In this video, I’ll show you how I tie the CDC wing on a Comparadun to keep the fly's profile stable and ensure a clean water print.

This technique is especially effective for small flies, as it maintains a fine and delicate silhouette. By adding several turns of thread between the CDC layers, the barbules stay well-secured, creating a durable wing that remains intact even after many casts and numerous fish. Unlike other patterns, this fly won’t lose its shape or turn into a sedge over time.
If you’re tying the fly on larger hooks, it’s simple—just build a larger thorax behind and in front of the CDC wing. But when it comes to tying smaller flies, like those on size #16-20 hooks, where you need a slim and delicate body, a chubby thorax isn’t possible. That's why this method is perfect for achieving that balance on smaller flies.
