I am using my trusty 1974 Oscar Schmidt chromatic that I have toured with since Jan. 1975. I wrote this piece for my birthday in May 1988, released it on my “Of Wind & Water” CD that year, and have played it regularly ever since. It was designed to be playable on any autoharp that has the 1-4-5 major and the 2m, 3m and 6m minor chords, though I notice a few people have learned it and skipped some chords I use. To make it sound right, you’ll need either a diatonic harp or a diatonic lock bar, which I have been using since the early 1980’s.
This tune was featured in Scottish comedian, musician & actor Billy Connolly’s blockbuster “World Tour of Scotland” movie & CD soundtrack (Billy played it on his autoharp in the movie) and I never got a penny, even though Billy left me a voicemail admitting his error and promising to make good on the royalties. If you ever run into him or see him perform, tell him loudly to pay Harvey Reid the sizable chunk of money he owes. Me and my kids could use it right now, since people don't seem to buy music anymore and want to watch it free on YouTube. (Read more about it at http://www.woodpecker.com/harvey&bill... ) Enjoy.
