Gordes is situated on a rocky headland in the Vaucluse mountains, in the heart of the Luberon Regional Natural Park, Gordes is a typical postcard-looking Provençal village.
Its picturesque cobbled streets with beautiful blond stone houses, vaulted fountains and passageways, and the majestic Renaissance castle standing proudly above the landscape attracted many artists, such as Chagall and Vasarely, who came here to draw inspiration.

Perched on a cliff and perched on the edge of the Vaucluse plateau, Gordes is one of the "most beautiful villages in France" and has been home to many celebrities and artists.

Gordes is in the heart of the Luberon and is a center of interest, but also a starting point for many visits, such as the numerous villages, Roussillon and Ocher, Colorado-Provençal or the Fontaine de Vaucluse.

In addition to the town itself, which has preserved medieval buildings dating back to the 13th century, at the foot of the cliff (but on the other hand, not accessible on foot) is the Senank Abbey, founded in the mid-12th century. Near the walls of the monastery lies one of the most famous lavender fields in Provence.

The bright stone houses and paving stones of Gorda served as inspiration for many artists and photographers, including Marc Chagall. Gordes is a member of the Association of the most beautiful villages in France.

You can see the sights of the town in half a day, although if you want to see more than just the central square, be prepared to walk up the hills. From the castle there will be a path down the steep streets, but then you will have to go up again. Those same postcard views of Gorda, as in the title photo - this is at the entrance to the town, but not yet there. There are places to park your car, but there are very few of them. So in high season you may have to hang around the edge of the hill.
