February 16, 2021 was a historic day for the Carolina Coastal Railway in Washington, NC on the former 'original' NS main. Early in 2020, the Runyan Creek trestle had a bridge support collapse into the mud, and the better part of a year went by as crews were working to repair it. On this day, the work was complete, and CLNA 119 (the Pinetown/Plymouth to Chocowinity turn) rolled across for the first time since the collapse.
Throughout the year, CLNA rerouted those cars over their line to Wilson and over CSX rails to reach the other end of the Plymouth line - but the same power was stuck on that job for a while.
CLNA 119 swapped out power with CLNA 120 (the Wilson to Chocowinity turn) at Chocowinity. I first shot NS P90 on the WL-line, then shot 120 departing Chocowinity before chasing 119 to Alligoods - pulling the first revenue consist across the Pamlico River and Runyan Creek in nearly a year. Maintenance crews observed from a barge tied up to the trestle - giving a round of applause for a successful project complete.
It was also very gusty that day, so the video camera was shaken around some every now then, especially near the water. Enjoy the video!
